TES Affiliate Conferences returns to Prague this September, and since MMG is headquartered here, we're not the ones getting on a plane this time. That's given us a slightly different vantage point on what actually makes a conference like this worth the trip.

Book the Meetings Before You Land, Not During

The most valuable conversations at any conference happen because someone made a deliberate decision to have them, not because two people happened to end up at the same coffee stand. If there's a specific payments question you've been sitting on — a reserve term that never got renegotiated, a vertical you're expanding into, a processing relationship that's stopped feeling like a partnership — reaching out before the show to set a specific time beats hoping the right conversation finds you on the floor. Booth traffic is real, but the meetings people actually remember afterward are almost always the ones somebody scheduled on purpose.

Know Your Own Numbers Before You Walk In

A conversation with a potential payment partner is only as useful as the specifics you bring to it. Walking in with a general sense that "our current setup isn't great" gets a general answer back. Walking in knowing your actual chargeback ratio over the last twelve months, your current reserve percentage, and specifically what's frustrating about your existing relationship gets a conversation that can actually go somewhere in the twenty minutes you'll realistically have. The businesses that leave a conference with something concrete are usually the ones who showed up already knowing what they were trying to solve.

Three things worth doing before TES Prague: booking meetings in advance, knowing your own chargeback and reserve numbers, and leaving room for the city itself

Prague Is a Good City to Do This In

There's something to be said for a conference landing in a city its organizers clearly like being in. Prague has hosted this crowd before, and the city itself — walkable, historic, with no shortage of good places to actually sit down and talk — tends to produce better conversations than a convention center bolted onto an airport. If it's your first time here, leave room in the schedule for it. The city's worth it, and a good meal away from the show floor is often where the real conversation happens anyway.

See You in Prague

MMG's CEO and CTO will both be at TES Prague this September, and we're glad to make time for a coffee — whether that's a specific payments question, a new market you're exploring, or just a conversation about where your business is headed.
